TWD White Loaves
I am so happy that Tuesdays With Dorie is back! I was a part of it for a while up until the end of last year when I had to take a bit of a blogging break. Now we’re both back, and we’re working out of a new Dorie Greenspan cookbook titled Baking with Julia.
Our first recipe is called White Loaves, and it’s exactly what you think it is: a delicious, easy white bread.
This week’s round is hosted by Laurie and Jules, the creators of Tuesdays with Dorie, and you can find the recipe at either of their sites.
I love everything about making bread. From the smells to the process, it all reminds me of my mom, who made her own bread to the point that she even ground her own flour!
I, however, do not grind my own flour. In fact, you all know how much I love my breadmaker. Though I do love making bread with my mixer, I miss the self-containment of the breadmaker when flour is being flung all over everything and the dough is creeping out of the mixer.
I love a good plop of risen bread dough.
There are few things as torturous as smelling baking bread and having to wait.
I realized after the bread had baked that, during the second rising process, my kitchen was probably too cool to get the height that I should have gotten. It doesn’t affect the taste at all but I’m kind of kicking myself that I didn’t put them in a warm oven like I usually do.
I’ll forgive myself.
Beautiful bread!! welcome back! I wish I could say my bread looked as good as yours…it was a flop:(..But it’s so nice to be baking with my TWD friends again!

My kitchen has huge glass windows in it and in the winter, the room temperature is always fairly low, so I have to turn on the oven to a low temp and let it get nice and toasty and then crack the door and put the dough in for a proof … or I would be waiting all day! Your loaves look delicious though! 🙂 Makes me drool!

These look great! Your bread is a lot more airy looking than mine. I love the last buttery photo.

I am usually fighting the cold house syndrome. It usually isn’t an issue, unless I am in a hurry…

Hahaha I’m funny about flour being flung everywhere, too! If there is flour where it ought not be, I *have to* wipe it up or it will make me twitch whenever I see it. I dunno how I can bake at all! =) Your loaves turned out lovely!

Thank you, Jennifer! I’ve tried to break myself of the habit of cleaning as soon as something hits the counter, but I just can’t. Ah well.

I love the smell of baking bread too. My son really liked the last shot of the bread with all of that yummy butter.

Thank you, Carolina! I think my mixer is definitely appreciating my breadmaker a little more, too ;D

Your bread looks good! Mine didn’t get really big on the second rise either. However, my mom’s bread did get really big. It didn’t occur to me that the room might be too cool since in the first rise my dough got huge. Thanks for sharing!

These look delicious! I used the oven trick for these loaves and I think they over-rose the first time. So maybe the combination of our loaves would be best!
