TWD: Irish Soda Bread
I’m almost ashamed to admit that I’ve never made Irish Soda Bread before — because this was one of the easiest things I’ve ever baked. No kneading, no waiting, nothing. Where have you been all my life, Irish Soda Bread?
Though this was a project for this week’s Tuesdays With Dorie, I think it’s going to become a staple at my house.
This week’s recipe is hosted Carla and Cathleen.
Four ingredients and one hour. That’s it.
These days, any recipe that says to just plop the dough into a pie plate to bake is already a winner in my book.
It came out beautifully golden and moist, and reminded me of baking powder biscuits.
The loaf pulled double duty as we snacked on it throughout the afternoon (it was really good with jam), and then I buttered it up and served it with split pea soup for dinner.
I bet it went great with the split pea soup! your bread looks great!

I do love soda bread as a side with soup. Holds up so well to repeated dunkings. And that crumb – yours turned out beautifully!

Your loaf looks perfect. I think I could have just copied and pasted your blog post for my own since I had never baked this kind of bread before but will be making it many times to come. And it also reminded me of baking powder biscuits and I loved how easy it was. Great post!

Hmm, I’m not sure how to follow it via email. Do you have an RSS reader?

I hear you – anything that can be plopped (when it comes to cooking, that is) is already at an advantage. If it tastes good, that’s a bonus!

Yes, it was nice to be able to start this bread an hour and a half before dinner and then enjoy it w/ the meal. Nice shape to your loaf! My dough was very wet, so I had trouble shaping it and scoring w/ the ‘X’. Next time I won’t add quite all the buttermilk. Sounds good w/ split pea soup. Unfortunately, I’m the only one in the house who loves that soup, so I don’t make it often:(

My family actually isn’t crazy about soup either, it makes me sad! I have to sneak it on them every once in a while 😀

Healther, Maybe you haven’t made Irish Soda Bread before but you’ve made it now. And, your loaf looked gorgeous. It’s been so long since I made ISB, too. It was so easy to make, so good, and vanished so quickly, that I know I will thrown it together often. I love the variations of the TWDBWJ crowd and will try those also. and with split pea soup???? Yumn.

Sounds like it would be great with soup.

This looks like a yummy bread to make. So, I’m gonna give it my full attention really soon. Because I think my hubby and I would love a bread like this one.
Thanks for posting it,
Grandma Kat
