Tuesdays With Dorie: Allspice Crumb Muffins
This week’s Tuesdays with Dorie was Allspice Crumb Muffins, chosen by Grandma’s Kitchen Table.
I’m always glad to have a reason to use my allspice, and I was especially excited to try this recipe. It’s been a while since I’ve made muffins, and since tonight’s dessert night for the fam it seemed perfect.
Sadly, I wasn’t terribly impressed with them. Should I not admit that? The only part I found that I liked were the tops, but even those looked uneven and weird (thankfully they tasted fine!). The tops actually came clean off a couple of them when I tried to carefully remove them from the pan after cooling for a few minutes.
The muffins themselves seemed bland, though they were soft. They came out of the pan greasy as can be too, which I don’t think I’ve ever had happen with muffins before.
I patted the struesel topping down just like the recipe said to, and though even the picture in the cookbook showed the tops rise, mine seemed to go the extra mile.
Oh, your muffins look delightful, both before and after baking! Very nice crumb on these…I could eat one right now and I thought I had my fill! I agree, always looking for ways to add Allspice as that jar is just so large…LOL. This recipe is a keeper for us, so hopefully the Allspice will be getting more playing time around here in the future. Thanks for baking with me this week!

I don’t think you should ever be afraid to say you didn’t like a recipe; we all have different tastes. 🙂 I’m not real familiar with allspice, but I am interested in trying these out. Maybe they’d be better with some fruit zest in ’em?
