EarthTainer Update #2
We’re just about four weeks into our EarthTainer tomato project, and if you look at the pictures I took two weeks ago you can see how much they’ve grown since then. They’re going nuts!
They’re nearly a foot tall, and we’re going to have to get the cages up around them this weekend since they’re also spreading out quite a bit, and we don’t want to hurt the branches getting them set up. I also carefully trimmed off the lowest branches earlier this week since they were dropping down onto the container, and this weekend I’m going to tackle the suckers that are sprouting up, too.
The best part:
The Sweet 100s are starting to blossom!
Oh, lovely! Such pretty healthy plants. You give me growing-things envy – I cannot WAIT until we are in the new house..

Thanks, Adrith! I’m loving watching them grow, I just hope they keep doing it! Are you going to do an in-ground garden or a container garden? And more importantly, do we get to read about it? 😀

I’m thrilled your garden is doing well. Look forward to more updates!

Thank you, Yummy! I swear it’s grown even more in just the last two days, it’s nuts!

I have been growing with EarthTainers in Phoenix, AZ for two full years now. This is my third season. I have grown everything but tomatoes in them so far. This year, however, I am growing tomatoes. I have grown strawberries, corn, cucumbers, squash (zucchini and butternut) and cantaloupes. They are perfect for the Phoenix area. I will warn you that as the summer drags on, the plants will drink more and more water. You may also have to place the EarthTainer in the shade or use a shade cloth to protect the plants from the harsh desert sun.
Ray, the guy who designed the EarthTainer, often hangs out on the GardenWeb Container Gardening forum or on Tomatoville in the Growing in Containers forum. I think that he’d get a big kick out of you calling him “the creator.” 😉 He is very very good about answering any questions that you might have about the EarthTainer. And he has TONS of experience growing everything imaginable in them. He also has suggestions on how to produce the EarthTainers as cheaply as possible.

Hi Brian! Thank you so much for your comment. My climate is very similar to yours in Phoenix, so I’m so glad to hear what you’ve successfully grown. We did put a solar shade across the garden area, so I’ll update throughout the summer as we see how it goes 😀
Thank you for the info on Ray! I hope I’m not offending him by calling him the creator 😀 I get the impression that it’s a labor of love for him, and I’m definitely appreciative!
